The Max Planck Campus in Martinsried
Information regarding the Campus development and associated construction projects
After more than 50 years of intensive use, the current buildings of the two Max Planck Institutes in Martinsried have reached the end of their service life. Due to significantly increased scientific, structural and legal requirements, a corresponding renovation would be more expensive and less economical than a new building. In addition, a renovation of the existing structures would not provide the same flexibility and functionality as a new research complex in the long term. Thus, with generous support from the Free State of Bavaria, a new campus is to be built in Martinsried.
The new campus will not only meet the most modern technical and scientific requirements, but also take into account social demands such as sustainability and social factors. The aim is to create a campus that will further consolidate and expand Martinsried's leading position as a hotspot for innovative life science research.
On these pages, we will keep you up to date on the campus development of the two institutes and associated projects.
Project Data Center
Alongside the development of the new campus for the two institutes, the Max Planck Society (MPG) is planning a new, overarching data centre for all Max Planck Institutes on the Martinsried site. This data center is being built and financed by the MPG and operated by the Max Planck Computing and Data Facility (MPCDF).
