Maintenance of alternative reproductive morphs

The chromosomal changes that lead to the diverse Ruff morphs incur severe survival costs at least until Ruffs reach adulthood. The two sneaker morphs have a genetic handicap and it is unclear why they do not go simply extinct in nature. We will tackle this conundrum and investigate how this handicap is compensated using experiments and state-of-the-art demographic models.
