- Studied art history, German, Romance languages and literature and philosophy at the University of Zurich. PhD 1977
- 1979-1981 Scholarship from the Swiss National Science Foundation for Experimental Aesthetics
- 1979-1983 Institute for Medical Optics (I. Rentschler) and Medical Psychology (E. Pöppel) at the LMU Munich
- 1980-1983 Lectureship at the Institute of Medical Psychology on Experimental Aesthetics (Medical Faculty of the LMU Munich)
