Experience research up close – at MaxLab

We are particularly delighted when school students show enthusiasm for science. However, for safety reasons, an internship in an active laboratory requires very intensive supervision, which cannot be provided in the everyday routine of research groups.

For this reason, we are unable to offer internships to school pupils directly in the departments and groups. In order to promote young people's curiosity about science in the most effective way, we have MaxLab – our student and visitor laboratory in Martinsried. Here, students can conduct their own experiments in a certified BSL-1 laboratory, which are directly linked to the current research and methods of our institutes. The program is diverse and ranges from day and week-long courses for school classes to opportunities for individual school pupils, such as the MaxLab’s introductory course in molecular biology and annual research week.
