Main Focus

I am interested in avian behaviours, particularly migration and the different strategies birds use to navigate and survive their long journeys. Environmental change imposes strong pressures on migratory species, making behavioural flexibility of bird populations central to their persistence. I focus on individual- and population-level variation in orientation, timing, route choice, and stopover use. These differences reveal the extent and limits of behavioural plasticity, and how such plasticity shapes ecological and evolutionary trajectories under changing habitats and climatic conditions. My current work focuses on the dynamics of shorebird migration, using tracking data to analyse the patterns, processes, and evolutionary pressures that govern how species move and adapt. My previous experience includes extensive fieldwork, bird banding, GPS tracking, and long-term population monitoring, providing the skills and expertise needed to link individual movement behaviour with broader ecological patterns.
