The Max Planck Institute for Biological Intelligence in Martinsried near Munich conducts basic research in the field of development, function and diseases of the nervous system. The institute is part of the Martinsried Campus of the Max Planck Society.
For a NIH-funded project the research group Tools for Bio-Imaging at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Intelligence is looking to hire a postdoctoral fellow (m/f/d) for biosensor engineering with an interest in biophysics, structural and molecular biology, high content screening, protein engineering, and, more generally, in tool development and neuroscience.
The molecular basis for plasticity in neuronal circuits is well understood, but less is known how these mechanisms are orchestrated in space and time and how neuronal activity in vivo leaves its molecular imprint. To address these questions, we will engineer a palette of high-performance fluorescent sensors for key events related to long term plastic change. Work will involve both structural studies on biosensor designs as well as screening approaches to increase signal strength of such sensors.
The position is best suited for an independent person who brings in a certain level of expertise acquired during PhD work. This should be documented by at least one first author research publication in an international peer-reviewed journal. The award of your PhD should be no longer than 4 years ago. You should be a good team player, diligent worker, share our passion for science and have an eye for details.
Your salary will be that of a postdoc (German public salary scale TvÖD13/14) and commensurate with your experience.
The project overall is set for a period of 4 years, with annual reviews of milestones and deliverables.
